The Oak Bark Leather Belt
A Traditional Belt of Unusual Quality
The Oak Bark Leather Belt is made from heavy hide 4-5mm thick, the type used by harness and bridle makers with a solid brass hand made buckle hammer riveted and hand-stitched to the leather with Irish linen thread. The leather is tanned with oak bark from the Lake District.
Our belts come in 3 colours: Brown, Dark Brown and Black. They look great with casual trousers, jeans and chinos.
Our Brown belt has a full grain finish which means that every blemish or scar on the cows skin will be present on the finished hide. The hides are dyed by hand at the tannery with an aniline dye. This process allows the grain and all the individual markings on the cows skin to show through. The dye is absorbed into the hide in an irregular way so giving a unique appearance to every belt. No two are exactly the same.
The Dark Brown and Black belts have been conditioned to be more uniform in appearance. Blemishes and scars are not apparent.
Buckles
Our buckles are made for us by a foundry in Walsall, West Midlands where they still use the age old technique of casting in sand. After casting each buckle is filed and polished by hand. From stock, the Brown and Dark Brown belts come fitted with a brass buckle. The Black belt has a nickel-plated brass buckle which is a shiny silver colour. In both cases the tang or pin is brass or nickel plated steel.
You can order any combination. Alternatively you can choose a solid nickel buckle which is a light yellow in colour somewhere in between brass and the nickel plate.
The tang is stainless steel. Add £5 for the solid nickel buckle.

Sizing
Our belts are graded by trouser size. But to be totally accurate measure an existing belt from the point where the leather meets the buckle to the hole that is most often used. When completing order form please specify if measurement is trs (trouser size) or m (measured).
From the hole to the point we allow 7 inches which is sufficient length to go through the double keepers and through the first trouser loop. Our belts have 5 holes 1 inch apart. The centre hole is the fitting hole with 2 either side. If you want this to be different we will cut to your specification at no extra cost.
