Something that is incredibly important to us here at Tanner Bates is minimising waste. We are very privileged to work with such a beautiful and valuable natural product, in such a stunning part of the country. We feel very passionately that we should not waste anything at all. As consumers and also as makers, we are very conscious of the awful waste created in so many industries.
During the last few months, as we have all been adjusting to the ‘new normal’ and wondering what the future looks like, our collection of offcuts has slowly been growing. Usually, we take these offcuts upstairs to our partners, Leather School, where keen students busily make, learn and practice new leather work skills. This system means that nothing is wasted and we are able to share our craft.
However, as our much-loved courses are currently on hold we have come up with an alternative way to put our offcuts to good use and minimise waste…
We’re really excited to share our new concept with you. We hope that you love it as much as we do!
This will be an ongoing project where we’ll put together some exciting new products with whatever offcuts we have at the time. The colour combinations and detailing of each item will be a statement of individuality. Our team of skilled artisans will sift through the leather and get creative, tailoring each piece to the available leather.
The leather may have some small naturally occurring surface markings, which give the product character and tell the story of each individual animal. Every item will be carefully curated, lovingly handmade and receive the same attention to detail and care as all of our products here, in our little Devonshire workshop.
By purchasing one of these unique items, you’ll be helping us to minimise our waste and even better, if you spend £50 or more on products from our other collections, these items will be available at a special rate. What better way to treat yourself, or someone special and contribute towards a more sustainable planet.
Make sure you’re following us on Facebook and Instagram to be first in the know every time we update the collection and shop now on our new ‘Scrapbook Edition’ page, here.
Please do get in touch to let us know what you think. And don’t forget to use #tannerbates and tag us in your posts to show us how you’re using your new piece.
