The unique patination of the hide and the appealing colour choice makes The Dartington Belt a versatile complement for both jeans and smart-casual trousers.
The Dartington Belt is hand made using single layer 3.5mm thick Full Grain Italian leather. We choose these hides for the Dartington belt partly because of the interesting colour choices and partly because the leather while being fairly thick and durable is also supple. The suppleness and enhanced grain patina is achieved by a drum dyeing process.
Most naturally tanned leather this thickness starts off quite stiff and has to be broken in. Not so with our Dartington belt – it's supple from the start.
There are 4 distinct but not garish colours to choose from. Cocoa, Black, Sand and Navy. The hides are aniline dyed which, like stain on wood, lets the grain and all its natural imperfections show through. The enhanced natural grain adds to the character of this really interesting cowhide from one of our favourite Florentine tanners.
Personalisation is on the inside or the back of the belt and is included at no extra cost. We emboss using a pigment in a choice of colours - black, silver gold or white. Please note that we position our own logo on the inside so that the upright letters are to the left of the buckle. Your personalisation with follow the same orientation. You can choose up to 12 characters/spaces.
Our leather is ethically and sustainably processed. The tannery uses a mixture of tree barks to transform the animal hides to leather. This is an ancient tradition which results in the familiar leather smell. Natural oils evaporate over time and need replenishing. Apply a dose of Tanner Bates Hide Food to the outside of your belt and other fine leather goods every 6 months or so to keep your leather in tip top condition.
Naturally tanned leather benefits from and will look its very best if given an occasional dose of natural waxes and oils. Our Leather care information card is included with every purchase.
